I made love to a BBC Micro

Pawl dressed as a robot in college wearing a robot costume we found. It actually matches his T-shirt and shoes! College today was one of those well productive days where you realise you're well on schedule to getting stuff done in time but you know you need to not get too lackadaisical about it or you can fall back in the closing stretch. Plus it was a long day (from 8:26am to 4ish). Now I'm just chilling and blogging (BEFORE the open mic for a change!)

Sharkmarine!

Created this on Adobe Illustrator today to go into The Winged Behemoth game I'm making. There is an underwater level and so I wanted the enemies to be mechanical sharks. This is a vector graphic so I could make it as massive as it needs to be (that's what she said) and it took a good hour or so of tracing whilst watching Everyone Loves Raymond. I might make an alternative version with a shark face decal on the front like those jet fighters. It also has a frickin' laser beam attached to it's head!

Monkeys for nothing and chimps for free

Was playing Donkey Kong Country 3 on emulator for a good part of today. Superb game, although not as good as Donkey Kong Country 2 (cause DKC2 has pirates, a theme park and a Lost World and Diddy Kong is a much more high tier character and plus Rare seem to have made more of an effort with the soundtrack and level design on DKC2 than DKC3). Still it hails from an era when 2D platforming was at it's best (the point before 3D platforming killed it). Still with games like New Super Mario Bros, Sonic Rush and Sonic the Hedgehog 4 my fingers are crossed for a Donkey Kong Country comeback!

An article on a certain ornithological matter

Started a new web comic based around the shenanigans of the Kong family. It can also be viewed with all my other web comics on my Sprite Comic blog. Some interesting reading for when I forget to update this blog.

Is that a UFO or a meringue?

No you're right it's a UFO! *rimshot*

Was doing a spot of drunken cupboard raking when I found a flying box of meringues.

BBQ

Had a BBQ at The Watering Hole with some awesome scran! A couple of kids were playing precariously close to this fire but at that point I was hungry enough to want to chuck them on the barbie! Ended up drinking in the hole from 4pm-12am then heading to PJ's where pretty much everyone who was out was wasted! One of those awesome nights that creep up on you!

SCREAM FOR ME KIRKCALDY!

Went to see Maiden Scotland at The Windsor Hotel in Kirkcaldy. They were superb. The support acts were class too. Fire Brand Super Rock were supporting along with Dog Tired and Battle of the War Machines.

Open Mic Night

A pic of Robbie having a wee shot of my acoustic before the open mic night. Was quite an enjoyable one. I went on later, got heckled for loads of Green Day, jammed with Colin (did awesome covers of Welcome To Paradise, The Unforgiven and Wonderboy) and then a couple other guys got up for some tunes and then I finished the night off and went to PJ's with Vicky, Doug and Stu.

Pull it back and watch it fall apart

Decided to revise the album cover for Duct Tape (from shit to half decent). Also bought a thing off Amazon for making CD labels as well as 100 Jewel Cases and CD Label paper.

THE DEFENESIGNAL

17 April 2010

Defenestrators HO!

Tonight we played PJ Molloys with Cherry Bombz. We also welcomed our new frontman "Chrome Hawk Hate Face" (aka me) who was replacing Teapot in a Coma, as Teapot in a Coma had died the night previously. (Full story on www.thedefenestrators.com) Gig was cut short for us but we still played a belter and we it was our first paying gig!

Filler

Today, Mouse, Doug and I spent a few hours in The Watering Hole beer garden then went for a Nandos. It's really refreshing to just hang out as a band. Nandos was awesome as always! We then went back to Mouses and watched Iron Man. This photo wasn't actually taken that night though. ^_^

Shutterbug

A picture of me taken at the Open Mic night playing Shutterbug, a song I wrote in dedication to budding photographers out there. For me music and photography are two things that are very closely related, as well as videography. I have a firm believe that there is no afterlife, and therefore the only way a person can really exist after death is through memories that they leave behind, through their children or through their epitaph (which for me is music, but this also explains why I have a LOT of photos on bebo/facebook etc). This doesn't really come across in the lyrics of the song however. But I encourage taking photos, regardless of the significance of the occasion, regardless of camera quality and regardless of photography skill.

Robot Chicken Talent

Noticed this in the credits of an episode of Robot Chicken (Operation Rich In Spirit - Season 1, Episode 18). Couldn't agree more! Sarah Michelle Gellar and Mila Kunis would both get it.

Horsepower!

Managed to catch a climpse of some folks riding horses up my street. This happens a lot in this neighbourhood what with the farm so close and the cycle track being excellent for walking them but my street hasn't been a common route for them. The horses down in the field where I walk Gus have had their jackets taken off too.

How The Defenestrators summon their drummer

10 April 2010

BEERS ON!

A photo of Mouse and Dougie dancing to Buck Rogers. Was a belter of a night. Shackled opened and we had a great laugh playing. The aftermath was almost as awesome as the gig itself. Magnus the sound engineer done wonders considering The Session had blown the one of the P.A. speakers and half the mics had went missing.

"I had a hard time getting it in......that's what she said!"

"DON'T LAUGH!" I shouted at Jess as she started to twitch while Chris was piercing her skin, even though I was cruel enough to make her laugh in the first place. She was getting a corset piercing done. I couldn't help but wonder why thin people are called "skinny" when they actually have less skin than others, which was the case here. Also watched some metal DVD's including the making of the Roadrunner United album. Some of the guitar playing on that is enough to make me want to give up guitar. If learning guitar was like leveling up in an RPG I'd be running around the woods killing boars while these guys are out slaying dragons! Need to get on the EXP curve!

The Big Empty Space Where The PC Used To Be

Took my PC to universal computing to have it looked at, turned out it was the Power Supply Unit that had went. £50 to fit a new one. They got it sorted, when to pick it up and pay for it and my account was dry! Hope I get my student loan soon....

The Rise and Fall of Max Carter

So today I gets a text from Doug asking me if I want to go to nando's then the Odeon to see Kick-Ass. We ended up missing the 2.15pm showing due to Doug and his terrible sense of direction and the fact Nando's was busy due to it being a bank holiday today. Instead we went bowling for 2 games of the most epic bowling EVER. The first round was Showery (Me), Thunder B (Doug) Treacle (Mouse) Max Carter (Dougie) and Gilmartinez (Stu) In which I came 5th and Stu one over all. Max Carter came last with his inability to bowl so then we changed the names so I was Teapot, Doug was Riding Hard, Dougie was Hud McGear (his Defenestrator Roadie name) Mouse was The Wish and Stu adopted the persona of Max Carter in which he was cursed with several gutter balls (as was Dougie in round 1) but then went on to win overall! Beers On!

The most epic part of bowling though was when the middle-aged man in the lane next to us managed to slip and lob the ball in the air and fall on his ass! The ball actually cleared the ENTIRE lane and landed in the gutter next to the pins! If a camera had been pointed at him it would have been a youtube sensation! Priceless moment!

After having to nip to Sky to run mum home from work we went to the 6pm showing of Kick-Ass, a film which I thoroughly recommend as it has action and comedy and an ace story line and a 10 year old girl who slaughters loads of folk and uses the word "cunt" like someone twice her age.

LOST

Installed a SNES emulator on my laptop and found a zip file of pretty much every SNES game ever made (including those only out in Japan and some hacks of the popular titles). Decided to play through a handful of games including Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kongs Double Trouble, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and The Lost Vikings II (pictured above). The Lost Vikings was one of my favourite games as a kid and I never did get round to the second one. Loving it so far. Blizzard should take time off from pimping World of Warcraft and make a Lost Vikings III.

The Brochure said there'd only be a feeeew ostriches!

So just outside of the caravan site was an ostrich farm where I managed to snap this guy (who was actually strutting for the camera). We went to the hotel near the site for a meal where I had a Chicken Bhunna but by the size of the portion it could have easily been Ostrich Bhunna! Also had Beef Tea which was interesting.

Happy 60th Birthday Dad!

My dad turned 60 today! So we went up caravaning in Aberdeen. Went to a pretty decent site near Petercoulter called Deeside Holiday Park. Mum and dad went out for a chippy while I ninja'd the banners and balloons up in the van.

Open Mic Night

Martin (left), Daniel and Melv (right) jamming at the open mic night. Melv's on flute. The stuff they were jamming was awesome. Well chilled out stuff. I jammed with Chris Chapman playing Creep by Radiohead and Self Esteem by The Offspring and jammed with Fitz playing Deeply Dippy, The Porno Track and a sudo-porno version of Down by Shackled.
