Winged Behemoth Update

Spent the majority of today working on my game for Scripting for Interactivity, in particular, creating level 2 and getting it to work (it has mothafuckin' BRONTOSAURUS's dawg). Trying to make level 2 work has been a hell of a task for the past couple of weeks but now I got it sorted (I'm creating all levels on a single keyframe rather than have a keyframe per level as my variables weren't carrying over). Colin Maxwell made me promise him I wouldn't work on it over the Easter holidays and I would actually TAKE A HOLIDAY. Hmmm.

Blue Dragon Baws Z

So I decided to start my morning by playing Blue Dragon, and by playing I mean finding a spot where enemies constantly spawn, casting field barrier and then sellotaping the sticks on the control pad to the right so my character basically runs in a circle leveling up.

My Pokémans: let me show you them

So I installed a GBA emulator on my PC and stuck pokémon yellow on it and cranked the speed up to 1000% so I can play it how it was meant to be played: ridiculously fast! Kudos to Nintendo for letting us name the main protaganist. I chose the name CUNTO. I think it suits him.

Thankfully I stuck it on a USB drive cause my PC died shortly after. An electrical shortage followed by a complete lack of communication between PC and monitor (no idea what has died inside my PC) but thankfully I have my laptop.

British Summertime Begins...

...with a fucking miserable day. This picture makes it look better than it actually was but it was cloudy and windy and it later rained, but we went in the glen and played for a bit, when the rain came on we headed to the pub for a pint and to blow loads of cash on the games machine.

An EarlyNight

So I had a night on the piss with Doug, Mouse and new friends Amber, Heather, Shaun and Simon. There was both a hen night and a stag doo in the Creepy Wee pub. The Stag party quickly left though (my guess is to Private Eyes). Anyways after Amber was ID'd for PJ's (that's PJ Molloys pub, not for wearing PJ's like Shaun pictured above) we had a drink in the City Hotel of all places and then ended up trailing about in the cold getting ID'd for anywhere open after 12 and then eventually calling it a night with an awesome sausage supper out of Marcantonios. Was home by 1:30am. Managed to handle the clocks going forward well.

GO GO DEATH WISH SAT NAV

So after crashing in Weegie Land, Riding Hard Thunderbeard rode hard through the road works to take us back from Fife (well as hard as he could ride in his mum's Fiat Stillo). Death Wish Machine Mane was using the Sat Nav plugged into his Machine Mane to navigate us back to the Shire. What was gutting was that while the signs at the road works said 40 the Sat Nav said 70! I'd have went with the Sat Nav but I don't think the car in front would appreciate that.

D.E.F.E.N.E.S.T.R.A.T.O.R.S. HO!

Tonight The Defenestrators played the 13th Note in Glasgow. The Venue itself was tiny (I really liked the cosy secluded vibe, and seeing as though most of the crowd was made up of the bands and their friends it felt very exclusive.) Theo of The Alchonauts opened with an acoustic set (particularly enjoyed the lyrical wizardry of Dictionary Sleeze). Then we went on and blasted out an hours set and were followed up by Face The Sun

Then we went out on the piss in Glasgow, ended up in the Cathouse. It was lamer than normal. And this pizza stall was selling pizza's for £1.50 a slice to which Death Wish Machine Mane asked "ARE YOU FUCKING MENTAL?!"

Then we went back to Jenny's and watched Mighty Boosh and drank apple vodka till we passed out...

Do Anything for DethKlok

Managed to replenish my collection of Metalocolypse episodes, and also aquired the Dethalbum which I need to put on my ipod. This is a scene from the first episode where DethKlok play the Duncan Coffee Jingle.

KILL BUNNY

Managed to replenish my collection of Robot Chicken episodes so have started watching it again. This is a scene from the first episode with a Jesus parody of Kill Bill where Jesus is hunting the Easter Bunny and fighting off Jews and Santa Claus.

Compulsive Disclosure

Dug this album out of my record collection recently. My parents bought me this album thinking it was a Green Day album as it was in the Green Day section of the record store seeing as though Billy Joe Armstrong is one of the guitarists/singers. It's one of the shortest albums I've listened to, and quite frankly Green Day's earlier stuff is better, but it IS punkier.

Gus

Parents came back from Holiday today. Missed Gus. He keeps me company during the day when mum and dad are working.

The pleasure is to play, it makes no difference what you say

A shot of the crowd in PJ's while we were sound checking. It was an awesome gig! The sound was amazing (thanks to Magnus) and so were the crowd! The antics afterwards were mental too, and I was sober!

Tunnel Snakes Rule!

Decided to play Fallout 3 for the first time in ages. My character "Buzz McKillington" is a Pip Boy Programmer according to the G.O.A.T test (So tagged skills are science, medicine and Unarmed combat). I've basically been running around punching things and drinking irradiated water heading North to find Pittsburgh...

Why the big paws?

I managed to get the pause function working in my flash game and have added an "invulnerability timer" so that you get 3 seconds after crashing instead of loosing all your lives at once to an angry swarm. I also have the enemy star fighters firing lasers back at the player but they fire loads at once so one hit will kill you. Oh well....

Miami Vectors

Made this poster for part of my "Advanced" Vector Graphics course. It was easy, but it looks pretty cool. I think it's the sprinkles that make it, and the gradient.

Forgot to take a pic two days in a row. Oops. Here's another Drawn Together screenshot.

Defecating into a cantaloupe

Been a bit stressed today and woke up at 3pm so I subsequently forgot to take a picture. This scene from Drawn Together reminds me of last nights events...

HD Ready!

Parentals went on holiday today so I hooked up the Xbox to the HD Telly to get full potential! Now I can actually read the text on screen! The game on screen is Dragon Age Oranges and it's not very good but I feel compelled to complete it for achievements.

Saturday Sermon

Set up my Korg Triton synth for the first time in a long time. Jammed a lot of old stuff I'm able to play (actually my fingers remembered a lot of the tunes, by brain did not) and also learned one of the most awesome keyboard intros ever: Mr Crowley by Ozzy Osbourne. I can actually feel the burn in the keyboard muscles and my fingers feel squashed.

2 Cups, One Boy

So my mum got some new cups and I find these ones fascinating. No matter what I always feel obligated to use the Tea cup to drink tea and the Coffee cup to drink coffee, but I can't for the life of me bring myself to do the opposite. At first this was on a subconscious level until I became aware that I was doing it. Even still I can't bring myself to drink tea in the coffee cup. It's like how people can't crap in public places or how if you have socks with weekdays on them you can only wear them on their corresponding day (until like me you end up with your socks mismatched and end up commemorating Monday and Thursday on the same day).

Oh that's NAAAAASTY

A flyer for the Open Mic Nights which I host at the Watering Hole. Totally not digging the name "Nasty" Neale. I prefer nimpho Neale but Doug was being PEDANTIC and told me that Nimphomania only applies to girls and that males get Satyromania. I don't quite think my hypersexuality has reached a critical state where it would be deemed a mental health risk though. Anyway tonight I played My Penis (song off my acoustic album, not my actual penis), Fuck a Dog by Blink 182, Fuck Her Gently by Tenacious D and Community Property by Steel Panther among others.

FLASH! AHA!

My Scripting for Interactivity Tutor, Colin Maxwell, gave me a Photoshop Badge and a Flash Badge today! I had to make a Pacman esc maze that the player could exit one side and come out the other to earn the flash badge! Now pokémon up to level 30 will obey me!

Zoom Zoom Zoom!

Today's post is dedicated to my Zoom G2.1u pedal I spent over an hour configuring.

I got this pedal after my old zoom died during the recording of Shackled's
debut album "A Pint of Heavy" and for a while I was playing it with a crappy sound.

When I could bare it no more I RTFM and played with the settings and managed to come up with a bank of fairly decent sounds, however when I tried to turn down the compression, boost, mic'd cab sound modeller, FX, Delay and Reverb I couldn't find a way to turn them off.....so I turned them to their lowest value (except the cab modeller, the only alternative was to turn on the Extra EQ but that makes my guitar sound like I'm playing it by slapping my bawbag off it.) I ended up with a sound that's ok for direct injection (when I practice at home with headphones plugged into the pedal or when I run it directly into Pro Tools) but a sound that doesn't carry in a live mix.

So irritated by my live sound I went back to the drawing board and in the process discovered that the left footswitch acts as OFF button for any effects. (Must not have RTFM'd as thoroughly as I should have.) So now I have a bank of sounds dedicated to not having anything but an amp modeler on it (with simple effects like reverb/wah added to each one.)

I used bank D for "Defenestrators" (bank C is going to be the Shackled bank with D0 being clean, C9 being METAL AS FUCK and C8 being Hero of the Day. D1 is Crunchy Punk sound, D2 is Crunchy Punk sound with reverb (or Crunchy Punk solo) D3 is Crunchy Punk with flange (cause I love a bit of flange!) D4 is a copy of D1 (for easy flicking between effects) and D5 is Porno Wah (wah with reverb). As I need more effects I'll fill in the extra banks. Think C7 will be Stripped....

Shackled Band Practice

Alex and Craggus rubbing shoulders on the soundproofing at the Backrooms where we practice. It was a good practice....tee hee! It was also the first practice since I've restrung the Schecter after 3D modeling her and I have to say she's been missed. I love my Ibaneezes but their bodies are just too skinny for a full METAL sound! Fat Bottom Girls you make the rockin' world go round!

Piri Piri Chicken

This is my dinner for tonight! Don't know how the parents are going to manage, they don't dig spicey food, other than curry. I also have some Nando's Hot Peri Peri sauce to slap on it. The amount of Peri Peri I've been eating since catching this cold has increased significantly. Been trying to napalm that bug!

6 March 2010

Birthday Girl

It was Sian's birthday today (pictured right) and also Deek's birthday so we had a big piss up in the hole. I got mortal. At the end of the night I had some chicken pakora from Istanbul. It was YUM! My current cold has also granted me hangover immunity!

We don't need know water let the motherfucker burn

Now my Fife geography is pish, so I don't know the name of this hill, but when I left college today it was on fire. The hill looked almost volcanic. This picture doesn't do the moment justice. There was a fire engine parked at the college, yeah like they're going to do anything from there. Maybe they shouldn't have all been getting wasted at the Watering Hole the night before!

4 March 2010

Early

Through my usual routine of running mum to work I ended up at college an hour early again. Place was dead. So I sat in the refectory and started reading "A Big Boy Done it and Ran Away" by Christopher Brookmyre. Loving it so far. I think one of my tutors is Simon Darcourt though but I'll not name who...

Winged Behemoth

This is a screenshot of the game I'm making for Scripting for Interactivity. Spent most of the afternoon programming the powerups to work. The "Auxiliary Boost" triggered by the A button quadruples the game speed, often resulting in death. The name and theme tune for the game come from an old power metal song I used to do.

Just like a-Mama used to make....

So today I am cooking Spag Bol for the first time ever since "the great spaghetti bolognaise incident of March 6th 2008". My mum gave me her recipe too which is the best damn spag bol I've ever had. As someone who's chef skills usually don't extend further than bunging something in the oven and giving a salute to Captain Birdseye this is a moment of great pride for me.

Metallica Calender.....METALLINDER

So I turned my Metallica Calender to March to be greeted with Lars Ulrich's face. I wish I'd went for the Futurama calender now...
